Tired of looking at the same old spiral on the left-hand side of the Lesson Book?  Try a leather-bound book format!  Choose <b>Preferences</b> from the <b>Edit</b> menu and select from the <b>Lesson Book Format</b> field.</p>

If the text on the Lesson Book appears too small, make it bigger.  You can change the default text size by choosing <b>Preferences</b> from the <b>Edit</b> menu, then selecting a new <b>Font Size</b>.</p>

To change a Lesson Book activity from completed to uncompleted, move the mouse cursor to the checkmark next to the activity icon and hold it down.  Now choose <b>Set activity uncompleted</b> from the menu.</p>

How many ways are there to turn the page in the Lesson Book?  You can use the <b>View</b> menu, the <b>Control Bar</b> arrows, the keyboard shortcut (<b>Cmd-3</b> {Mac} or <b>Ctrl-3</b> {Windows}), or click the dog-ear picture at the bottom-right of the page.  Don't forget navigating by the Table of Contents, too!</p>

Use the <b>Help Guide</b> for quick access to all relevant help areas.  From the Help Guide, the <b>Index</b>, <b>Glossary</b>, <b>Assistant</b>, and <b>Search</b> are just a click away!</p>

Window clutter got you down?  Use the <b>Tile</b> and <b>Cascade</b> items in the <b>Window</b> menu to rearrange your windows.  Also minimize {Windows} or roll-up {Mac} the windows you are not using to create more space.</p>

When both the Lesson Book and either the Glossary or Index is open, pressing a key will take you to the listings starting with that letter.  For example, pressing the letter <b>S</b> will show the <b>sample</b> definition in the Glossary or the activity references in the Index.</p>

To print the Table of Contents, choose <b>Print Table of Contents...</b> from the popup menu icon at the bottom-right of the window.</p>

A glossary definition can be printed.  Select the definition in the <b>Glossary</b> window, then choose <b>Print Definition...</b> from the popup menu icon at the bottom-right of the window.</p>

How many ways are there to start and stop an <b>Exposition</b>?  There's the <b>space</b> key, the <b>return</b> key, the <b>play</b>/<b>pause</b> button, and the <b>Start/Stop</b> selection from the <b>Exposition</b> menu.  A single mouse click in the exposition window will stop and a double-click will restart an exposition.</p>

<I>Hey - what did he or she just say?</I>  If you want to read the <b>narration</b> of the Exposition or Movie, choose <b>View Exposition Text</b> from the <b>Exposition</b> menu.  To see the text <I>every</I> time an exposition or movie launches, check the <b>Show exposition text</b> selection in the <b>Preferences</b> dialog.</p>

<I>Oops - I didn't mean that!</I>  The <b>Undo</b> command in the <b>Edit</b> menu is enabled for many actions.  Turning Lesson Book pages, dragging an exercise answer, completing an activity - all undoable.</p>

If you just turned a page in the Lesson Book, you can use the <b>Undo</b> command in the <b>Edit</b> menu to return to the last page.</p>

To see several different Lesson Book pages at once, choose <b>Create New View</b> from the <b>View</b> menu.  The new window can be turned to a different page than the first window.</p>

While viewing <b>Homework</b> or <b>Projects</b> use the <b>Tab</b> key to cycle through the problems.  Likewise use <b>Shift-Tab</b> to cycle backwards.</p>

Pressing the <b>up</b> and <b>down</b> arrows while viewing the Lesson Book will scroll the window up and down.  The same behavior occurs in Asterisks, Homework, Projects, and Exposition Text windows.</p>

If an Exposition or Movie is paused, then the <b>left</b> and <b>right</b> arrow keys will rewind or fast-forward the activity.</p>

In the <b>Go To...</b> window, activated by clicking on the Lesson Book page number in the Control Bar, you only need specify the lesson number to go to the first page of that lesson.</p>

If you do not want to hear all the sounds that play when an activity is launched or a Lesson Book page is turned, you can deactivate them.  Choose <b>Preferences...</b> from the <b>Edit</b> menu, then select the <b>Disable sounds</b> checkbox.</p>

Clicking the mouse button on the dog-ear picture in the bottom-right of the Lesson Book turns to the next page.  Holding the mouse button down will eventually activate a popup menu showing more choices, such as going to the previous page or a specified page.</p>

If you have trouble discerning between colors on the probability or randomness hands-on activities, click on the bins and choose a new color.</p>

All windows are printed <b>WYSIWYG</b> - what you see is what you get.  You may want to increase the window width to the width of your printed page.  Choose either <b>Show Page Breaks</b> from the View menu (Mac) or <b>Print Preview</b> (Windows) to see how the window will be printed.</p>

If you want to remember a certain activity, open the <b>Bookmarks</b> and drag the activity icon into the Bookmarks window.  Clicking on a bookmark will return you to the correct place in the Lesson Book.</p>

In the <b>Bookmarks</b> window, the text of any bookmarks can be changed.  Press the mouse button on a bookmark icon and choose &quot;Annotate this Bookmark&quot; from the popup menu.  From the same popup menu, you can also change the bookmark icon!</p>

If you are in the <b>Glossary</b> and want to see the same term in the <b>Index</b>, click on the <b><FONT SIZE=+2>i</FONT></b> icon.  Likewise, use the question mark <b><FONT SIZE=+2>?</FONT></b> from the Index when looking for a glossary definition of a term.</p>

To jump to a different page in the Lesson Book, choose <b>Go to...</b> from the <b>View</b> menu.  To go to page 2 of lesson 5, type in <b>5-2</b>, <b>5.2</b>, or even <b>5/2</b>.  There are three other ways to get to the Go to window:  the lower-right dog-ear icon; the page number in the control bar;  and Command-5 (Mac) or Control-5 (Windows).</p>

<b>Context Menus</b> are available in many windows.  In the Table of Contents, Homework, and other windows there is a small icon of a popup menu at the bottom-right.  You can also hold down the <b>Control</b> key while mouse clicking (Mac) or use the right mouse button (Windows) to activate the Context Menu if it is available.</p>

There is a <b>Context Menu</b> available for each Lesson Book activity.  Position the mouse cursor over an activity icon in the Lesson Book.  On Macintosh, hold down the <b>control</b> key while clicking the mouse button;  Windows users can use the right mouse button.  Careful - do not set an activity as completed if you haven't done it!</p>

If you are looking at an <b>Asterisk</b> window, you can find the page where the asterisk was referenced from.  From the Context Menu, choose <b>Find in Lesson Book</b>.  The Context Menu activates with the <b>control</b> key and mouse button (Mac) or the right mouse button (Windows).</p>

<b>Data and more data!</b><BR>Select <b>List Datasets</b> from the <b>Tools</b> menu to see a comprehensive list of all datasets used in this course.  The list can be sorted by either <b>title</b> or <b>topic</b>.</p>

You can open a student file on any supported computer.  To convert a Macintosh student file to Windows, add the suffix <b>.axs</b> to the file name.  To convert a Windows student file to Macintosh, set a creator type of <b>ddmm</b> and a file type of <b>dmst</b>.  These settings can be added to PC Exchange or any other translation utility.</p>
